It was an ugly start but a beautiful finish this weekend for the Mississauga Falcons under-16 B team.

Although they opened the Ontario Indoor Cup soccer tournament with a 4-1 loss to the Mount Hamilton Avalanche, the Falcons rebounded and eventually defeated the same squad 2-0 to win the championship on Sunday (Jan. 30) in Vaughan.

Team co-captain Alex Mitrovic netted both goals in the final tilt.

Coach Peter Macut thanked the players, coaches and parents for their commitment and said the win was incredible for a squad that wasn't previously considered to be among the upper echelon teams.

"It's huge," Macut said. "Sometimes we don't get picked as the best team, but we had the best players on the field that day."
