Tim Howard was labeled as the: ‘’Hero of America’’
During the 2014 World Cup, Tim Howard was labeled as the: ‘’Hero of America’’ and this was thanks to the sublime string of performances that the American goal-keeper displayed at the international stage which even earned him praise from the president Barack Obama.
Howard broke the record of most saves made in a World Cup match as he made a total of 15 during the match that saw United States losing against Belgium with a final scoreboard of 2-1. Even with the heroics of Tim Howard, his national side still lost and was knocked out from the competition but this sensational performance from the veteran shot-stopper was enough for the player to receive praise from every corner around the globe.
Outstanding, amazing, superb, all of these were the words that were used to describe Howard’s performance in the previous World Cup. When the tournament was over, Howard made his return to Everton and things began to fall apart as Everton is located in the bottom section of the Premier League and with a ratio of 1.59 goals conceded per match, he is now being rated as one of the worst goal-keepers in the Premier League of this season.
Tim Howard cannot be blamed for Everton’s recent string of underwhelming performances as the entire team has been struggling but Howard is clearly one of the most players who has been suffering most and this is undeniable.
In January of 2014, Howard picked up an injury which left him out of the playing grounds for 6 weeks and during this period of time, Joel Robles had to step up and perform. In these matches Joel Robles was able to secure 3 clean sheets as his performances were much better than his American counterpart.
Howard has a contract with Everton which extends until 2018 but with this disastrous season that he is experiencing it would be a wise decision for Roberto Martinez to allow other goal-keepers the chance to make their claim in the main team of the Premier League club or even start considering searching around in the transfer market.
